The Unexpected Journey Behind Brian Phillips Photography

I never set out to become a real estate photographer. In fact, if you had asked me ten years ago what I’d be doing today, owning a real estate media company would have been the last thing on my mind.

Today, I’m the owner of Brian Phillips Photography, where I help real estate professionals throughout Pennsylvania showcase properties through exceptional visual storytelling. Every listing has a story to tell, and my goal is to create photography and media that capture attention, inspire buyers, and help my clients make an unforgettable first impression.

The journey here, however, wasn’t a straight line.

After earning my bachelor’s degree in English and Literature from Warren Wilson College, I built a career centered on serving others. I spent more than a decade in the hospitality industry as a bartender, server, and manager, where I learned that exceptional customer service isn’t just about meeting expectations—it’s about making people feel valued, respected, and genuinely cared for.

I also spent 12 years serving the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania—first as a caseworker and project manager with the Department of Human Services and later as a Marketing Communications Specialist with the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. Those experiences taught me how to communicate effectively, manage complex projects, solve problems, and always keep people at the center of the work.

For a long time, I thought that was the career I’d retire from.

Then life reminded me that sometimes our plans aren’t the ones we’re meant to follow.

A series of unexpected events caused my wife, Tina, and me to take a step back and reexamine what mattered most. One of those moments was when Tina survived a ruptured brain aneurysm. Watching her recover gave us an entirely new perspective on life, gratitude, and the importance of not putting our dreams on hold.

Not long afterward, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2021, I unexpectedly lost the job I believed would carry me through retirement. It was certainly difficult, but looking back, it also became an unexpected gift. It gave me the opportunity—and the courage—to build something that was truly my own.

I wasn’t just looking for another job. I was looking for work that felt meaningful.

Photography had always been more than a hobby. I’ve always been drawn to storytelling, composition, and finding beauty in everyday places. As I spent more time behind the camera, I realized I wanted to create a business that combined my passion for photography with everything I’d learned throughout my career about customer service, communication, marketing, and project management.

That’s how Brian Phillips Photography was born.

Today, I provide professional real estate photography, aerial photography, aerial video, twilight photography, floor plans, 3D virtual tours, virtual staging, and visual marketing for residential, commercial, multifamily, and land properties throughout South Central Pennsylvania. As an FAA Part 107 Certified Remote Pilot, I’m able to safely and legally capture stunning aerial imagery and cinematic drone video that showcase each property from a unique perspective.

My philosophy is simple: great photography is only part of the experience. Being dependable, communicating well, respecting my clients’ time, and consistently delivering exceptional service matter just as much as the final images. I didn’t just start a photography business—I built a business around serving people.

Every property is important because every client has trusted me with something that matters to them. Whether it’s a starter home, a luxury estate, an apartment community, a commercial development, or expansive farmland, I approach every project with the same care, professionalism, and attention to detail. I want every client to feel confident they’ve chosen someone who genuinely cares about helping them succeed.

I’ve always believed that learning doesn’t stop. Whether it’s mastering new technology, refining my photography, exploring AI tools, or connecting with other creators, I’m constantly looking for ways to improve the experience I provide my clients. I believe that curiosity, continuous learning, and a willingness to embrace change are essential to delivering the very best work.

When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me spending time with Tina and our English bulldog, Bo. We love traveling and discovering new places, whether it’s a weekend road trip or a longer adventure. At home, we’re just as happy watching a great movie, reading—or listening to—a great book, or bingeing an engaging TV series together.

I’m also a dedicated mindfulness meditation practitioner, and I’ve found that mindfulness has made me a better business owner, photographer, and person. It reminds me to stay present, listen carefully, and approach every project with patience, focus, and intention.

Looking back, I’m grateful my path didn’t unfold the way I expected. What once felt like a setback became an opportunity to build a business that reflects who I am and the values I want to bring to every client relationship.

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about me. I hope our paths cross soon, and I look forward to helping tell the story of your next property.
